



Akbar then did what all the smart ones would do if such a de
pressing empire is gifted to them; he handed over the reigns of the empire to Bairam Khan. The last years of Akbar's life were marked with increasing tension between him and his son Jahangir, and for other reasons also than Anarkali.
Akbar, the greatest Mughal ruler, died of an undiagnosed disease.
